The industry of personal profiling and the collection and distribution our preferences, habits and associations form the basis of this series of installations by Paul Cooper. The central part of this installation, ACTUALITY is a playfully interactive audio-visual feedback contraption that converts presence and movement into sound vibrations. These sounds are in turn converted into documents that record visitation throughout the exhibition.
The data is represented as are a series of prints with each work having the handy title “Best Before” together with its recommended use by date. While there is a suggestion of in-built obsolescence, the data is however, preserved and spread far and wide through documentation and distribution processes.
