My name is Andriana Carney and I go by Andy. I am a non-binary emerging artist practicing on unceded Gadigal Land. I work in printmaking, fibre work and installation. My work delves into the fluid and changing relationship that I have with my ego, sexuality and gender identity.
My father was in a debilitating car accident before I was born. My mother’s brother and my namesake, Andy, lost his battle with depression around the same time. Andy was a gay man struggling through Sydney in the 90s, and as a queer person living without him today, I feel the hole of where he is in my life. These stories have shaped me. I feel I am constantly honouring and breaking them down; trying to understand how this transgenerational trauma lives on through me. This project explores these histories; immortalising found objects and moving them into new spaces. These spaces hold joy, pain, humour, fluidity and growth, as an ode to the complex lives that led to mine.
