'BUT I DON’T WANT COMFORT’
Curated by Dara Wei
‘But I like the inconveniences.’
‘We don’t,’ said the Controller, ‘we prefer to do things comfortably.’
‘But I don’t want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.’
‘In fact,’ said Mustapha Mond (the Controller), ‘you’re claiming the right to be unhappy’.
---- Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
Bringing together seven artists working across installation, photography, illustration, performance, and digital media, the exhibition aims to look at discomfort as a valued human ability that forces us to see ourselves and the world differently so as to become open to changes and differences. Participating artists include Jody Graham, Melanie Eden, Brigid Vidler, Norma Zuniga, Laura Nash, Jennifer Brady, and Michael Blake.
On the opening night, Melanie Eden and Jennifer Brady will present live performances. All welcome!
