THOMAS THORBY-LISTER
Every Nook and Cranny
This exhibition is a site-responsive collection of works exploring the architecture of the gallery space; pondering ideas of memory, surface and touch.
I was drawn to the protruding natural rock forms in the space; provoked by the contrasting textures. Using 3D modelling software to map this I moved throughout the architecture, examining every detail. This intimate recording used technology as an extension of my body, a prosthetic virtual limb touching every nook and cranny.
The resulting digital models, drawings, photos and notes sat stagnant for a year, with the exhibition on pause due to the pandemic.
The works presented in this exhibition have relied solely upon memory; both my own and the virtual memories embodied in recorded data. Touch has been brought to the foreground of our senses and the virtual textured surfaces provoked tactility during my research. The works use various media, allowing different access points for the viewer, making visible the overlooked and examining the mechanics of reality.
