HARRY BAYSTON
(Or) So I thought
‘(Or) So I thought’ is a solo show by Harry Bayston exploring the year that was, instead of the year that was meant to be. The artist draws from personal experience, whilst simultaneously navigating universal feelings of uncertainty caused by the spanner in the works this year has thrown us all.
Harry uses this body of work as a cathartic process, evolving over the year as a form of escapism, coming to terms with and reflecting on all that was and is now.
The show is a combination of three mediums; drawings, paintings and sculpture, representing these three stages, with each expanding upon the former.
The tongue in cheek title, ‘(Or) So I thought’, paired with the bright colours of the pieces, embodies the hardship of the year, with a playful tone symbolising how the artist chooses to roll with the punches of 2020, and laugh before (or after) we all cry.
