KATERINA PATRIKEOS
My name is Rose
The imagery draws on her everyday experiences of living in Unanderra, on Dharawal land, a suburb on the south coast of NSW. Unanderra reflects the post-World War Two diaspora of European families in its architecture and gardens. Katerina uses the common sight of the stone lion statue as inspiration for the character ‘Rose’, a human version of the protective lion, whom she repeatedly renews in each work. The images and fabrications of the everyday are mediated through Katerina’s engagement with personal narratives, childhood memories, humour and an expanded painting and textile practice.
