Touch Don’t Touch Part II
“the whiter the body is, the more beautiful it is”
Johann Winckelmann, 1765
Archeologist and art historian
As we have come to understand, nothing can be further from the truth.
An idealised myth of simplicity and purity synonymous with the art of Ancient Greece continues to permeate despite the abundant evidence to disprove it. To this day, we continue to believe that the deceptive ‘whiteness’ of the marbles is compatible with a superiority distinguishing White Europe from the rest of the world.
This exhibition dispels the lie by provoking this gratuitous glorification through the use of experimental colour and form.
