GUS ARMSTRONG
Fright and Fragility
“In my observations of the past two year period it has become apparent that many people have had the confronting opportunity to consider their mortality and their place in society on this earth. We have collectively endured some extremely trying times and we will carry that throughout our life as a common shared experience. This work performs those feelings”
Gus Armstrong is a regional Australian performative photographic artist whose focus is on human behaviour and their relationship with their environment.
This new work transverses the alpine terrain of Ngarigo land in an attempt to visualise the limits of endurance and undress the fragility of humans. He primarily uses cinematic drone photography to compare scales of view in both the internal and external landscapes. The soundtrack is performed by Dabee man Peter Swain, played as a direct response to the video.
This is an open conversation between askew interference patterns, whose planar qualities multiply to curve and distort from the original trajectory.
